Amaechi- "I am proud to be a graduate of UNIPORT"

Governor Amaechi made the pledge when the all-conquering Team UNIPORT called on him in Government House, Port Harcourt recently to present him with the giant overall winners’ trophy won by the team at the NUGA games, held at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Osun State.
Receiving the trophy from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ajienka, Amaechi congratulated the winning team on its spectacular exploits, describing sports development as a very important tool for the over-all development of young people.

“I am very proud to be a graduate of the unique University of Port Harcourt and I am very prepared to work with the university to assist it achieve its full potentials in sports development. This victory, which I understand is the fifth consecutive conquest by Team UNIPORT is a fitting reward for hard work by a dedicated crop of young people, who were determined to bring honour and glory to their Alma Mater and Rivers State,” the visibly delighted governor said.
Governor Amaechi promised to meet with officials of the University to work out areas of possible collaboration to develop sporting activities in the State, advising the athletes to understand that concerted efforts would be made by teams from other universities to displace Team UniPort on the medals table at subsequent NUGA games.
He announced a financial package for the team and officials in appreciation of the spectacular feet, promising that the Rivers State Government would always reward excellence in sports and academics as a means of raising all-rounded students that can represent both the university and the state at athletics meets.
The Governor urged Team UNIPORT to strive harder to win the 25th edition of the NUGA games to be hosted by Benue State University.
